I then went into the Airport Utility and "Configured Other" to add the TC using its IP address. So, I setup the router to manually assign the TC an IP using it's MAC address. Re: airport time capsule keeps disconnecting you can also try using static IP on the TC as an alternative to bridge this actually works well but is a little more involved to setup. so fix that in the asus as I said and make sure if you shut down and restart the TC it does actually pick up the IP.

Of course it is essential that the TC does not change IP.

see if that helps.īTW the windows method of fixing this would be simply edit the hosts file. change the name of the TC, make it short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. type in the IP to help it out.Īlso don't forget the ipv6 setup to link-local only on the wireless/ethernet on the computer. You simply need to manually control things. you can also discover it in Airport utility by using its IP directly. if you get it mounted in Finder by IP address. but test it immediately before worrying too much. The complex bit is you are going to need dhcp reservation on the main router to stop the TC from bouncing around its IP address. either of which amount to the same thing.ĪFP://10.0.1.1 (or whatever IP you have). Routing is being messed up by the VPN or the DNS is not working properly. With the airport utility open and with the TC selected, can you get TM to start? does it show the TC when the vpn is active? Let me suggest you open the airport utility. Now tell me what happens when the vpn is active. Ping: cannot resolve tcgen4a: Unknown host Go ping tcname.local and it should find it. So go ping tcname and it will probably fail. replace apostrophe with nothing (it is illegal in normal networking). (It is why I strongly recommend people use short network names, with no spaces and pure alphanumerics). which might not look at all like what you named it in airport utility. Let me suggest when you have the TM working. but can have issues with the Time Capsule because it has default set domain of local. but since you have selected local LAN access it does not have trouble with the immediately connected LAN. The setup as you have it means the computer might change its domain when the vpn is active. Just want to confirm you are actually using mountain lion?
NORDVPN FOR MAC 10.8.5 SOFTWARE
Just for edification purposes, I'm using the Cisco An圜onnect VPN software and have enabled the "All local (LAN) access when using VPN" option. What's even stranger is that once I disconnect from the VPN, the Time Capsule still displays "Device Not Found" for quite some time, but eventually comes back to life. What gives here? Ideally, I'd like to be VPN'd but still have my Time Machine run as planned. However, I can still use the "Enter Time Machine" option to access data from within the Time Capsule. Any Backups planned are delayed and I cannot run the backup manually. I have given my Time Capsule a static IP in my network, but it still disappears from my MBP's network. When I VPN into my company network, the Time Capsule "disappears" from my MacBook Pro's network (evidenced by a "Device Not Found" in the AirPort Utility), however all other network devices are still available and ready (most likely since they've been assigned static IPs within my local network).
NORDVPN FOR MAC 10.8.5 PRO
My MacBook Pro currently uses wi-fi to connect to my local network - I have several network printers and a NAS, and everything works perfectly when I am not VPN'd into my company network. I have disabled all Time Capsule router settings, and instead rely on my Asus RT-N66U wireless router for all wireless and wired connections - I also have a 10/100/1000 switch for extra ethernet connections (Time Capsule is directly connected to the switch). I'm using a Time Capsule (3TB from early 2013) that is solely used for Time Machine backups. I have a question regarding the use of VPNs and the availability of a network (ethernet) connected Time Capsule.
